In just a few years, Spearfish Trails Coalition has grown from a grassroots effort into a community organization with the momentum and vision to make a lasting impact.

OUR PROGRESS SO FAR:
Raised significant funding to support trail development and community projects.
Completed our first major trail project in July 2026, bringing a new gravity skills system and directional flow trail to the Spearfish City Campground.
Built strong partnerships with the City of Spearfish, IMBA, local businesses, land managers, and community organizations.
Strengthened our leadership and built a more robust board to support the organization's growth.
What started as an idea is becoming a lasting community asset.

OUR NEXT MAJOR PROJECT
Expanding trail access from Spearfish City Campground to the mouth of Spearfish Canyon. More than 8 miles of proposed new trail experiences.

A mix of hiking-only, multi-use, and bike-only trails with varying levels of difficulty.

Connections to the existing recreation path and more opportunities to explore the canyon.

An expanded area for the local youth mountain bike team to practice, develop skills, and ride together.

Additional multi-use trail opportunities extending from the parking lot at the mouth of the canyon.

Project Status
Trail design is currently under review, with final plans expected soon. The total project cost is currently projected at approximately $800,000. This is an investment in outdoor access, youth development, trail connectivity, and a more inclusive outdoor experience in Spearfish.
