Spearfish ride guide content
Look out mountain park
This park is a large open space managed by the City of Spearfish, encompassing more than 750 acres of Black Hills landscape. With three access points—including routes from downtown—you can easily reach the trail system while still experiencing a strong sense of remoteness, especially on the north side.
The easiest trails are typically found on the west side, accessed from the Nevada Street trailhead (outhouse, seasonal water). The 12 miles of trail here offer a little bit of everything, including bike-optimized beginner trails, modern flow trails, and more rugged, old-school singletrack. Hikers looking for a challenge can make their way to the summit of Lookout Mountain. The trails are routinely maintained and are generally in excellent condition.
You may encounter cattle in mid- to late summer. They are accustomed to people and typically do not pose any issues.
trails on lookout mountain tend to be the first to dry out in the spring and the last to get snow in the fall, and can often be used year round.
